I want to use this opportunity to wish our Ethiopian colleagues a very happy Ethiopian Millennium celebration. The new millennium for most of us is 7 years old, but for our coleagues in this great African Country, today marks the begining of the new millennium.
It should be noted that the African Union and the UN recognised today as the true African Millennium, thus today is not just a celebration for Ethiopians but for all of Africa. Here in Nigeria, a cultural festival was organised last week and several activities will be taking place throughout the year.
It is my sincere hope that seven years after and having learned from the various experiences of many other countries, Ethiopia will invest more in programmes to improve education and health care and open-up her market to significantly improve employment situation for the young people in the country. Seven years is a significant amount of time to gather good practices that are replicable, so I hope that our great African brother will effectively utilise this advantage to advance the status of the people in Ethiopia.
Last week, I brought a box of injera from Addis Ababa for the Embassy here in Abuja, so I am going there to have my share of nice Njera and tibs/kotfo. HAPPY NEW MILLENNIUM!!!
