African Union government should wait, says SADC
SOUTHERN African Development Community (SADC) member states are of the view that the proposed establishment of an African Union government should wait until the African continent attains higher levels of both economic and political integration.
The SADC region also said it supported the extra-ordinary executive council’s decision that an all-inclusive audit of the African Union Commission should be conducted to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the AU before deciding whether it should be replaced or not. SADC outgoing chairman, Pakalitha Mosisili, said this yesterday when he addressed the ongoing AU heads of state and government summit in Accra, Ghana.
